The Experiment Beneath It All

Long before Klarhet had a name, this work was an experiment.

We stepped away from what looked like a stable, successful path β€” Nicole finishing a doctorate in nursing, Kirk building a thriving web design career β€” not because it wasn't working, but because something deeper felt unresolved.

We kept asking the same question, in different forms:

What actually allows humans to live well β€” comfortably, sustainably, and in alignment with nature?

We didn't want theory. We wanted to live the answer.

So we began exploring β€” not all at once, and not with a plan β€” but through lived experience. Regenerative farming and food forests. Whole-food nutrition and integrative nursing in practice. Overcoming infertility naturally. Designing homes and spaces that supported nervous system regulation instead of depletion.

Eventually we left Minneapolis entirely. We drove north to a piece of raw land in Lutsen and built four geodesic domes with our hands, knowing nothing about building from scratch. Kirk became the physical force behind the build. Nicole held the design. The land became the lab.

Hospitality became one of our most powerful training grounds β€” not because we set out to build a hospitality business, but because it allowed us to observe something rare and honest: how people actually respond when an environment is designed to support them.

How they arrive. How they soften. How their bodies respond to light, rhythm, quiet, and care. How ease changes behavior more effectively than instruction ever could.

Over time, patterns emerged.

We learned that thriving isn't built through effort. It's built through stability β€” designing the environments and rhythms that support a life instead of constantly demanding from it.

Eventually, all of these threads converged into a single, repeatable design lens β€” one we now use to integrate land, home, work, hospitality, and daily life into a lived experience that is both grounded and alive.

That lens is what Klarhet is built on today.

After years of living it ourselves, we're now expanding into sharing it with others β€” not as a philosophy to believe in, but as a way of designing life that can actually be held.

The fuller story of how we got here unfolds slowly, in the rhythm it was lived. Some of it lives in the work. Some of it is still being lived into.

Thank you for being here, and for taking the time to understand the work beneath Klarhet. We invite you to step into it gently and discover what becomes possible when life is designed with care.
